Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy
Pelvic floor physiotherapy is for women experiencing pain, leaking/incontinence, frequent or urgent urination, perimenopause/menopause changes, or heaviness in the pelvic area. A pelvic floor physiotherapist can assess to see if the pelvic floor muscles are functioning well and address these issues. A pelvic floor physiotherapy appointment can help you with prenatal care, birth prep, and postnatal care. The pelvic floor muscles play in important role in organ support, sex, and bladder/bowel control, and birth. If there has been added stress to the pelvic floor muscles such as during pregnancy, pelvic surgery, or with high-impact exercise/sport, a pelvic floor physiotherapist can also help rehabilitate the pelvic floor muscles. When the pelvic floor muscles are either too weak or too tight, we can experience the problems above. Proper exercises (it's not always kegels!) will strengthen and/or lengthen these muscles so that your pelvic area is pain-free and functional. All of my examinations and treatments are conducted one-on-one in a private examination room.
General Physiotherapy (Orthopaedic)
Orthopaedic/General physiotherapy is for women having issues anywhere in their joints/muscles or limitations with their movements. I offer evidence-based and current techniques to assist my patients. A comprehensive assessment and treatment will be carried out with the aim of restoring movement and alignment, strengthening, and functional integration. You will receive a combination of treatment techniques ranging from soft tissue release, manual therapy, McKenzie method, acupuncture, fascial release, active and passive stretching, muscle energy techniques, taping, exercise prescription, modalities like ultrasound, depending on your what your needs are after an assessment. All of my examinations and treatments are conducted one-on-one in a private examination room.
C-Section Scar Release Treatment
C-Section scar release treatment is for anyone who has had a cesarean section. The Dolphin Neurostim treatment is used. It is a gentle and effective treatment to help mobilize your scar, improve sensation around the scar, which will improve your core and pelvic floor function. When you have a scar that is mobile and not adhering to other tissues nearby, this will help your whole body move and function better. C-Section scar release treatment will include massage and mobilization of the scar and at-home guidance on how to best manage your c-section scar.
Ultrasound Therapy for Blocked Ducts
Ultrasound Therapy is a gentle and very useful treatment of blocked milk ducts in nursing mamas. Plan to bring your baby to the appointment so that you can nurse immediately after the treatment as this will be very effective in helping to clear the duct after the ultrasound therapy.
Diastasis Recti Program
This is for women who would like to rehabilitate their diastasis recti, which is the separation of the abdominal muscles that could lead to a "pooch" or a bulge in the tummy area. This is common for women after pregnancy but can be diminished with correct exercises that activate the proper core muscles. A diastasis recti that is not properly rehabilitated and functional can contribute to low back pain and issues in the pelvic floor. In these sessions, I will show you exercises you can do at home to strengthen your core and tone your tummy area and teach you how to avoid putting added stress on the healing diastasis so you can recover more quickly and effectively. These sessions can begin as soon as 6 weeks postpartum (after clearance to exercises by OB/midwife) and are also appropriate for women who gave birth months/years ago. It's never too late to heal your tummy!
